The other states with the lowest average household income per capita are California and New Jersey, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The highest average household incomes per capita come from Illinois, which has the second highest average income in the nation, according data from the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
In total, the five states with a median income of less than $25,000 also had the second lowest median household incomes for those earning less than one million dollars per year, according to the Census Bureau.
